INVISTA Launches 20-Denier High-Tenacity SolarMax® Nylon Enhanced performance for Skydivers

May 23, 2005
INVISTA has developed an ultra-lightweight yarn designed to bring enhanced performance to skydivers. The latest offering from the SolarMax® family of durable, UV resistant fibers is a 20-denier, high-tenacity yarn that enables parachute manufacturers, like Performance Designs, to create lighter canopies with a smaller pack profile. 20-denier SolarMax® yarn is a revolutionary fiber offering and will take parachute design to the next level.

Accelerate free fall

Today’s top skydivers are constantly seeking ways to improve their performance. During free fall, their jump suits and packs create wind resistance that impacts speed and maneuverability. To solve this problem, Performance Designs, the world’s premier parachute manufacturer, chose 20-denier SolarMax® yarn to create a lighter canopy design that can be packed in a smaller profile.

“Safety and reliability are the most important things we consider in parachute canopy designs,” said Bill Coe, president of Performance Designs based in Deland, FL. “We have always used SolarMax® in our parachute canopy fabrics because of the strength and UV resistance it provides. The new 20-denier SolarMax® yarn gives us the ability to streamline the pack giving free-fallers a step change in speed and performance.”

20-denier SolarMax® Type 6,6 nylon yarn

* Outstanding tear and abrasion resistance
* Lighter weight fabric at equivalent tear and tensile strengths
* Superior UV resistance
* The same protection from strength loss due to heat and ultraviolet degradation you always expect from SolarMax®

As versatile as it is durable

New super-lightweight SolarMax® yarn is a great addition to INVISTA’s active outdoor line of fabrics.0-denier SolarMax® yarn can also be used in other outdoor products for the ultimate in strength and performance.

* Tents and shelters
* Sleeping bags
* Hot air balloons
* Spinnakers
* Ultra-lightweight containers and stuff sacks

INVISTA is committed to providing innovative solutions in the fiber market. There is work in progress to further increase the filament density of SolarMax® fiber to improve fabric coverage.
