INVISTA Carpet Reclamation Program Sets Record
Interest Climbs Across the Nation

June 12, 2005
CHICAGO – The INVISTA Carpet Reclamation Program has doubled its outlets for recycled feedstock in the past year, company officials announced today at NeoCon® World’s Trade Fair in Chicago. The center is currently processing at the rate of 15 million pounds of used carpet per year, which is a record pace. “More than eighty percent of the carpet we receive is recycled into a product,” said Bobby Berrier, vice president – INVISTA commercial & transportation flooring. “The remaining carpet is turned into carpet-derived fuel to produce useful energy which reduces the need for conventional fossil fuels. We’re proud of the fact that we have been able to divert so much carpet from the landfills and excited that the demand for recycled feedstocks continues to grow.”

Since announcing last year that the INVISTA Carpet Reclamation Center will accept carpet from all commercial dealers, the interest level has increased dramatically. Berrier added, “We are getting inquiries about the program from coast-to-coast. Commercial dealers are calling on the phone and visiting our Web site to learn how they can get enrolled in the program.” Berrier said that carpet that comes to the INVISTA Reclamation Center is de-manufactured and made into feedstock for a number of products such as filtration devices, automotive parts, building and packaging materials, carpet cushion and backing for new carpet.

The facility has operated steadily since 1991. Based in Calhoun, Ga., the program is flexible and can provide containers for collection and trailers for transport or, if desired, the dealers can deliver the post-consumer carpet directly to the Calhoun facility. The network of ANTRON® fiber consultants has developed relationships with the commercial dealers and assists with pricing for the service. Dealers, designers and end users can calculate the environmental benefits of reclaiming and recycling used carpet by visiting www.antron.invsita.com and using the Carpet Reclamation Calculator tool.

As the first and only nationwide carpet reclamation program that recycles all types of carpet, the center has collected more than 116 million pounds of carpet, resulting in more than 490,000 cubic yards of conserved landfill space.
