INVISTA and CSX Transportation Dedicate New Rail InfrastructureInvestment will provide customers with more flexibility, efficiency, and reliabilityINVISTA, a global manufacturer of chemical intermediates, polymers and fibers, and CSX Transportation, Inc. (CSXT) celebrated the expansion of rail tracks and other infrastructure in a ceremony today at INVISTA’s Spartanburg plant. The capital investment will result in increased efficiency and improved customer service. CSXT and INVISTA have worked together over the past year to rework and expand the track layout at INVISTA’s polyester manufacturing facility where CSXT delivers and picks up rail cars. With the addition of nearly 26,000 feet of track, INVISTA gained the capacity and flexibility needed to switch or hold its own rail cars within the plant. In addition, by re-routing its main line, CSXT can now serve the plant without interference from passing trains. “INVISTA and CSXT can now serve their customers even better by providing more flexible and efficient rail car delivery and pick up,” said Chris Hamman, president of INVISTA Polymer & Resins. “Investing in value-generating projects like this one helps put us in the best position to compete globally, through challenging economic times and beyond.” Dean Piacente, CSXT’s vice president-chemicals and fertilizer, said, “The expanded facility demonstrates the mutual benefits of working to understand each other’s business needs and use constructive dialogue to drive results that help keep our customers competitive.” INVISTA’s Spartanburg site produces chemical intermediates, polymers, resins and fibers for polyester applications including food and beverage packaging, x-ray film, flat-screen televisions, and fiberfill for sleeping bags and outerwear.
