INVISTA pursues unique philanthropic initiatives that help address local opportunities and challenges. For example, INVISTA's constructed wetland at its Victoria, Texas, site also serves as a regional environmental science education center for upper elementary through college-level students. More than 35,000 students have benefitted from a science-based environmental curriculum since 1998.
The INVISTA Centre, a large sports facility containing four ice skating rinks, opened in Kingston, Ontario, on May 31, 2008. This endeavor represents INVISTA Canada's support of community enrichment by enabling youth and families to participate in enhanced recreational opportunities.
INVISTA and its employees donated 1.4 million RMB ($200,000 US) and much-needed bedding products to the Chinese Society of the Red Cross and other disaster relief agencies to provide relief for the tragic earthquakes that occurred in western China in 2008.
INVISTA employees also contribute their own time, skills and expertise to corporate philanthropic initiatives such as river clean-ups, habitat preservation projects, hazardous waste collection efforts, and Habitat for Humanity building projects. These projects demonstrate a commitment to stewardship that extends beyond INVISTA's fence-lines.
For example, INVISTA's Waynesboro, Virginia, site sponsors household hazardous waste collection days, which help ensure that paint, pesticides, motor oil, and other hazardous wastes are disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.
INVISTA's manufacturing sites in Paulínia and Americana, Brazil, sponsor “Live Classes,” which are out-of-classroom educational activities, such as tours of power plants, parks and water treatment stations.
In Oestringen, Germany, INVISTA donated computers to local schools to enhance the educational experiences of students.
In Maydown, Northern Ireland, INVISTA has provided financial support to improve the community's park space, reflecting the company's desire to reach out and enhance the local community.
In China, INVISTA launched scholarship programs at Sanshui Vocational School in Foshan and Shanghai Business Information College in Shanghai. The scholarships will provide financial support to students who have achieved academic excellence while demonstrating integrity and teamwork.
The combination of donations of financial resources and volunteer hours from INVISTA and its employees contributes to the quality of life in the communities in which the company has operations. As a Koch company, INVISTA is also proud of the generosity of its parent company's primary owners. Through the Koch family foundations and their personal philanthropy, they support many worthy charitable and educational endeavors designed to foster societal progress, environmental stewardship, and well-being for all.
